The mass exodus of educators in recent months is not lost on me. I made the very purposeful and authentic choice to leave the classroom at the end of the 2022 school year.
Some assume I left teaching because the work became too complex or stressful. In some ways, these friends might be partially correct. The work is hard and stressful, yet I contend those productive struggle moments make the positive, heart-felt moments and smiles more meaningful to my heart.
The decision to start my home design and building company has been years in the making. I love designing, planning, and managing home improvement and remodeling projects. I hope to build upon my skills by building new homes and making my mark on the home industry. I am excited about the new ideas I hope to showcase and bring to the mainstream Omaha area market.
Most little girls like to play with dolls and dress up, and I did not fit that mold. I was the little girl who asked for Lincoln Logs at Christmas and wanted to play ball with the boys at recess. As a young teen, my favorite gift included drawing tools, not to draw characters or fashion, yet to design floor plans and homes. After graduating with my undergraduate degree, I stepped into Real Estate and sold homes for seven years. I loved sharing my love of home and design with my clients. I brainstormed solutions to problems potential buyers find, and I managed seller improvement projects to prepare for sale.
Once my three boys were born, selling real estate became cumbersome and challenging, with little ones always needing my attention. I chose to pursue a teaching career, so my schedule better matched those of the children. I longed to serve and support young learners. In my position, I grew as a leader and obtained a second master's degree in leadership. My experience in the Educational Leadership program continued to build on my capacity as a leader and apply my core values to my work. I gained communication and management skills to serve a purposeful community. I hope to transfer the knowledge and understanding I hold to endeavor into entrepreneurship.
I hope to lift and serve other women and support my community as a woman-owned corporation. I seek to continue learning and enhancing my skills as a designer and builder. I hope to inspire women in ways I have been inspired by women in design, building, and education.
